Most of the puppies sold in Spain come from Slovakia, a country where the animals are raised in deplorable conditions in the so-called "puppy mills."
The business of the dogs are for Eastern European mafias a machine to make money and nothing care about the health of animals, nor the way they are exploited until they die.
Prices of puppies we can buy in local pet stores are excessive, between 700 and 2000 Euros for a purebred puppy, and that is why the mafia make money, by selling illegally at much lower prices, so many people decide to buy online to these people without knowing what lies behind this business.
The sale of animals is not done only by Internet, many pet stores buy puppies to these mafias to sell on their premises. These puppies are often sick and end up dying in their new homes, after the owners spent fortunes trying to cure them or end up abandoning them on the streets, to further increase the number of animals that do not have a home.
The journey of these puppies begins in Eastern Europe, in the "puppy mills", where the dogs are kept in very poor hygienic conditions, giving birth until they die. Because of the precariousness of these places, the cost of raising puppies is very low, lowering costs thereof. The puppies are separated from their mothers soon after birth to be transferred to Spain, in an almost endless journey, crammed, to end up being exposed in the window of a pet shop. And those who do not find a buyer end up being abandoned, or forced to fight in clandestine fights, or being euthanized.
The abandonment of animals begins with breeding and illegal sale. That is why we must put a stop to this business which is so damaging to people and animals. We cannot continue to allow a few to profit from the life of animals.
The Seprona, the National Government and all institutions, should make humanly possible to end this animal trafficking.
Do not buy pets, adopt, and that money donate it to the protective in order to get more animals out of the streets, it is the only way to end the abandonment and neglect.
