Pelusa will be transferred to a sanctuary in the locality of Chapada dos Guimarães, in the State of Mato Grosso, Brazil. Meanwhile, she is being treated daily for a chronic illness that he has had for four years.

"Today 'Pelusa' receives a very special care and our objective is to improve its health and environmental conditions so that it is in optimal conditions and can face the transfer to a sanctuary of Brazil, where for the first time after 50 years, will be in contact With elephants of the same species, "explained the Deputy Secretary for Environmental Management of the Commune, Germán Larrán.

The official said that "an investment of 2.5 million pesos is currently being made to improve the conditions of the habitat where Pelusa has been living for more than 50 years, in order to give it a better quality of life."

"Pelusa has a chronic disease -pododermatitis- for 4 years on its hind legs. That is why it is medicated and under continuous care by the veterinary staff of the Zoo, "said Larrán.

Treat now Pelusa, the elephant of the Zoo of La Plata

Pelusa has long been affected by a bacteria on its legs and a couple of days ago it can no longer get up. We want and need to be allocated all the means that are necessary to cure this condition as Pelusa cannot ask, has no more voice than ours.
