We need to keep valid this Law prohibiting the followers of Santeria to sacrifice animals in their rituals, because this Law is being threatened by this religious community.
We believe that animal sacrifices are evil and inhuman acts, and they do not deserve any kind of abuse.
The Supreme Tribunal of Justice (TSJ) upheld a complaint introduced by a lawyer of the Yoruba religion, also called Santeria, against a municipal ordinance prohibiting the slaughter of animals in religious rituals, which according to this lawyer would violate the Constitution by prohibiting freedom of worship.
The lawyer stated in its application that "In our Yoruba religion, called Santeria, indeed animal sacrifices are made and this is not prohibited by adjectival Law, but is also protected by the Constitution."
That is why the Supreme Tribunal of Justice (TSJ) should consider whether the slaughter of animals is not against the Law of the environment, which protects free domestic animals and in captivity, and then on the decision to allow or not to perform this religious sacrifices.
For this reason we ask not to the acceptance of the application filed by the community and supported by the Supreme Tribunal of Justice (TSJ).
Do not override the right of animals to life!
