Let's save stray animals at risk and give them a better life to be available for adoption

Addressed to: Sao Paulo Center of Zoonosis Control

The Center of Zoonosis Control was created in Sao Paulo in a beautiful area, where animals are "chosen" by the director to be put up for adoption. However, by order of the new director, these animals have no human contact except with the vet and cleaning staff. They do not let us volunteers to walk dogs of the institution on weekends, keeping them in this prison, exposed to situations of deep stress.

The worst event that occurs in this institution is now only have 197 animals, and this Center have the capacity for 450, this information is given by employees not identified for fear of reprisals. That is, today they have the space and structure to give a shelter to more stray animals that are in a state of suffering, but the new director only accept dogs to sacrifice, otherwise leaves the helpless animals in the street to starve, suffer and spread disease, and employees are with their hands tied.

Today, for example, if a citizen ask the municipality of the city to rescue an animal that suffered an accident, a team will head to the site to check the conditions of it, if the animal is in a position to be sacrificed, they bring the animal to be sacrificed, if the animal is in a situation where it could be saved with treatment, they leave the poor animal in the street to die slowly. If the Municipality receives another complaint on the same animal, the Center will return four days later, and if after this period, the sanitary conditions are worse, then we collect the poor dog to be euthanized.

They say it is not a shelter and therefore they do not have to accept new animals. Yes, this is a responsibility of the CCZ to accept animals, to control diseases that can be transmitted by them when they are exposed in the street, without vaccination and without adequate worming, to treat them with dignity and respect, avoiding suffering and overpopulation of stray animals, ie, they do not care. To our surprise, the project is to have no more animals housed by 2018.

I'm surprised by what I saw and I feel compelled to exercise my citizenship for the sake of what is right and I count on the help of all who care and are animal lovers.

Let us join firms so Zoonosis treat animals with respect, so they can take good care of those who are there and welcome them stray animals that need attention.

We are stronger together! Let's make a chain of favors!
