The Supreme Federal Court decided on Thursday (03/28/2019), unanimously, that it is constitutional to sacrifice animals in rituals of African-based religions in Brazil.
For them, the Federal Constitution is clear in guaranteeing freedom of worship to people, of which the sacrifice of animals is part of their liturgy.
Alexandre de Moraes stressed that African religions do not perform sacrifices with cruelty against animals. According to him, the quick slaughter is adopted, so that there is no suffering.
According to the understanding of the "magistrates", religious freedom is a fundamental right of the people.
Religious freedom is a fundamental right of all, there is no doubt. But if to exert this freedom, you have to sacrifice innocent animals, it is at least out of human sanity.
Nothing justifies the death of animals, supposedly for purposes of quackery, beliefs, work, in short, for religious purposes, and that does not intend to provide food.
