Mr. Mayor of Belo Horizonte, Alexandre Kalil,
I come with respect to appeal to the Lord Mayor on behalf of Brazilian society, because there has never been anyone in decades able to confront the Central Market in order to do justice.
As the Mayor already knows, for decades the Central Market of Belo Horizonte sells animals in the same place where it sells food. There are hundreds of them, dogs, cats, hens, ducks, birds of various species, including wild ones. These animals suffer terrible cruelty, most never saw sunlight. They live in cages that are dirty and overcrowded. They die of hunger, thirst, and what is worse, in the case of dogs die because of Leishmaniasis, a terrible disease that is also transmitted to people and can lead to death.
It is no longer a subject of cruelty or something else. It is a more terrible problem: public health. Such activities in the Central Market can not be allowed.
On November 7, 2016, justice, through the Public Ministry, prohibited the sale of live animals in the Central Market, and the withdrawal of all animals found there. This is to be a triumph not only for the citizens of Belo Horizonte, but also for the whole of Brazilian society.
But traders, without any knowledge or foundation of what they say, are already threatening to return to their evil and cruelty against animals. In fact, they are bandits disguised as merchants, friends of "bigwigs" with much influence behind their actions. It has used during all these years of violence against peaceful activists, breaking their cameras and mobile phones so that the photos did not reach the media and society.
That is why all of us, the Brazilian citizens, must sign this petition and share it. In this way, we will not allow the Mafia of the Central Market to return to work in their criminal activities.
I am sure that Mr. Mayor is part of our fight, on the good side, and will do the impossible for this to end definitively.
